From established names to players who made the most of the national stage, here is our complete look at the standouts, performances, and observations from the 2026 Border League showcase games in Henderson.
Border League West 2026 Standouts
Christopher Brown - C - 6'9" - 2027 - Dream City Christian (AZ)
Brown showed a nice combination of interior skill, mobility and activity on both ends. He displayed a soft touch around the basket and a solid back-to-the-basket game, while also flashing his mobility on a fake handoff that turned into a straight-line drive and dunk. Defensively, Brown moved especially well when doubling and helping against ball screens. He also delivered in a big moment, converting the game-tying layup that sent Dream City Christian to overtime.
Christian Elocobe - SF - 6'4" - 2028 - Dream City Christian (AZ)
Elocobe's physicality stood out as a downhill scorer and secondary ball handler. His strong frame allows him to absorb contact on drives, while his lateral quickness and purposeful ball pressure give him legitimate value on the defensive end. He also stepped up late, hitting a three during Dream City's comeback that helped set up the eventual game-tying possession. The Belgium U16/U18 FIBA product showed an appealing blend of strength, defensive movement and attacking ability.
Tai Bell - PG - 6'3" - 2028 - Columbus (FL)
Bell controlled stretches of the game as both a playmaker and floor general, consistently creating advantages with the ball in his hands. He split defenders, attacked gaps and finished impressively around the basket, while his ability to both score and distribute made him particularly difficult to contain in pick-and-roll situations. Bell also brought noticeable effort defensively, getting his hands on passes and making himself difficult to shake at the point of attack. His combination of athleticism, playmaking and competitiveness made him one of the more complete guards I watched.
Beckham Black - PG - 6'3" - 2027 - Southeastern Prep (FL)
Black's scoring wasn't at its best, but his feel for the game remained apparent. He consistently pushed pace, delivered quick passes and showed the ability to manipulate different levels of the defense with his vision. Even through a colder shooting performance, Black remained poised and comfortable creating from all three levels. It was a good example of a highly regarded guard finding ways to influence the game without needing his best scoring night.
Aiden Groce - CG - 6'2" - 2027 - Southeastern Prep (FL)
Groce brought strength and energy to Southeastern Prep's backcourt. He was effective attacking downhill, finished well around the basket and showed that defenses also have to respect him from three. His downhill game became particularly valuable late, when he scored five points in the final 90 seconds with two layups and a free throw. Groce's combination of physical drives and perimeter shooting gives him multiple ways to pressure a defense.
Ka'Shawn Gil - CG - 6'4" - 2027 - Southeastern Prep (FL)
Gil caught my attention with his shooting mechanics and ability to get his shot off quickly. He looked particularly comfortable in catch-and-shoot situations, giving Southeastern Prep a reliable floor-spacing option. At 6'4" with a long, lanky frame, Gil also contributed more on the glass than his build might initially suggest.
Freddie Forbes - SG - 6'4" - 2030 - Mater Dei (CA)
Forbes showed advanced shooting ability for his age, combining excellent off-ball movement with legitimate deep range. His mechanics were compact and quick, and he confidently knocked down shots from well beyond the high-school three-point line. Forbes played a significant role in Mater Dei's second-half comeback and helped cut the deficit to five late. His performance also came just before adding offers from USC and Weber State.
Demarcus Henry - SF - 6'8" - 2027 - AZ Compass Prep (AZ)
Henry settled into the game after a slower start and showed why his versatility is intriguing. Rather than predetermining his offense, he consistently reacted to what the defense gave him - taking the open jumper, attacking available driving lanes and making the proper read when opportunities developed. He flashed scoring from all three levels along with stretches of quality vision and defensive versatility. What stood out most was his patience; Henry rarely appeared interested in forcing himself into the game.
Yann Kamagate - C - 7'0" - 2028 - St. Francis (CA)
Kamagate's physical tools immediately stand out, particularly his reported 7'9" wingspan, but there were encouraging basketball traits beyond the measurements. He ran the floor well, finished difficult catches around the basket and showed stretches of defensive versatility as a help defender. His jumper remains a developing part of his game; the mechanics looked encouraging, although the touch can continue to improve. Offensively, Kamagate is currently at his best as a finisher when teammates create the advantage for him, where his size and ability around the rim can become difficult to handle.
Cherif Millogo - C - 7'4" - 2027 - St. Francis (CA)
Millogo showed considerably more than size during his minutes. He displayed impressive passing instincts when double-teamed in the post, consistently looking to move the ball rather than forcing attempts through traffic. His touch around the basket was notably soft, and one baseline sequence - gathering from the dunker spot, turning through pressure and finishing with a dunk-showed coordination and balance at 7'4". Millogo also flashed unusual defensive versatility for his size, giving him an intriguing collection of tools despite playing only the first half.
Jamaal McKnight Jr. - PG - 5'11" - 2027 - Iowa United Prep (IA)
McKnight played with an edge from start to finish. The 5'11" guard was shifty and physical getting downhill, consistently touched the paint and created opportunities for teammates once the defense collapsed. His defensive pressure was just as impressive, repeatedly forcing his assignment to change direction and even helping create a 10-second backcourt violation. With Iowa United Prep operating with only six players, McKnight maintained his intensity deep into the game and delivered a huge three plus two free throws in overtime.
Jeremiah Evans - PF - 6'9" - 2028 - Iowa United Prep (IA)
Evans was the best offensive rebounder I watched during the showcase. He consistently found ways to create extra possessions and was especially productive working from the dunker spot, cutting into open space and finishing through traffic. Evans also flashed some legitimate post skill, including a well-executed hook shot. His activity became even more important late, as he scored six points over the final three minutes.
Kevin Wheatley Jr. - SG - 6'6" - 2028 - Iowa United Prep (IA)
Wheatley showed impressive composure in a tight game, allowing opportunities to develop instead of hunting shots. His midrange game was particularly effective, including a step-back and another jumper that brought Iowa within one. Wheatley then delivered two free throws to force overtime before opening the extra period with a strong dunk. His ability to remain patient while still producing in important possessions stood out.
Ty Johnson - PG - 6'0" - 2027 - Bishop Gorman (NV)
Johnson was extremely difficult to keep out of the paint. His burst, athleticism and ability to squeeze through narrow gaps consistently forced the defense to collapse, while his touch allowed him to finish against bigger defenders once he got there. One sequence - a fake handoff into a euro step, fake pass and floater over a big - showed the craft he possesses around the basket. Johnson also contributed defensively by getting his hands into passing lanes, and his reliable outside shot makes it harder for defenders to simply play for the drive.
Maison Phillips - SG - 6'4" - 2028 - Bishop Gorman (NV)
Phillips put together one of the better shooting stretches of the showcase, knocking down four or five threes in the first half. His mechanics looked clean and repeatable, with a quick release that allowed him to capitalize on small windows. Just as importantly, Phillips remained composed when defenders closed out and didn't force attempts simply because he had gotten hot. The next area I'd like to see more of is his ability to punish aggressive closeouts from the midrange.
Cayden Daughtry - PG - 6'1" - 2027 - Calvary Christian (FL)
Daughtry immediately established himself as an offensive engine, showing vision, pace and deep shooting range from the opening possessions. He was involved in each of Calvary Christian's first 12 points during a 12-0 start and displayed a deep offensive repertoire with threes, midrange creation, playmaking and difficult finishes. His hang time around the basket helped him convert contested attempts, while his ability to make shots off balance added another layer to his scoring. Defenders have to account for Daughtry well beyond the three-point line, which opens even more space for his creation game.
James Nowells - CG - 6'2" - 2027 - Calvary Christian (FL)
Nowells' defense was what separated his performance. He willingly picked up full court, stayed disciplined against Corey Dixon and did a good job keeping his assignment in front without unnecessarily leaving his feet. Offensively, Nowells contributed by filling lanes, knocking down threes and cleaning up opportunities around the basket, but he didn't need touches to influence the game. He looked like the type of connective, glue-piece guard who can help a lineup in several ways without requiring the offense to run through him.
Corey Dixon - PG - 6'2" - 2027 - Bishop O'Connell (VA)
Dixon played with excellent fundamentals inside the paint. He consistently got two feet down, created space under control and used his paint touches to either finish through contact or locate openings for passes to his bigs. Rather than relying strictly on speed, Dixon showed an ability to get defenders where he wanted them and work into his preferred spots. His balance between scoring and creating made his penetration difficult to defend.
Benjamin Berrouet - PF - 6'7" - 2028 - Dynamic Prep (TX)
In my first viewing of Berrouet, his passing immediately caught my attention. He kept his eyes up for cutters, moved the ball willingly and didn't force shots, but still attacked decisively when a driving lane appeared. His strong frame translated well to a physical game, helping him finish downhill and defend vertically without automatically fouling. Berrouet also knocked down a three and made an athletic cut for a dunk, showing that his offensive value isn't confined to the paint.
Jesse Mutombo - CG - 6'2" - 2027 - Dynamic Prep (TX)
Mutombo consistently disrupted possessions with his anticipation and hands. He picked up full court, produced multiple strips and showed good instincts as a help defender, seemingly finding a way to get a finger on the ball throughout the game. Offensively, he flashed touch with a floater and pull-up while finishing effectively in the paint. Developing a dependable three-point shot would add an important dimension to an already appealing defensive profile.
Aidan Diggs - CG - 6'4" - 2027 - Millennium (AZ)
Diggs played with patience and rarely looked hurried. He read the floor well, showed soft touch inside and mixed controlled drives with impressive athleticism. His perimeter shooting also stood out, connecting both off the catch and on a pull-up before hitting a big three late to cut the deficit to four. Diggs' ability to let the game develop while still taking advantage of scoring opportunities gave him a mature feel offensively.
Cordell Nelson - C - 6'8" - 2027 - Chuck Person Elite (GA)
Nelson made his biggest impact with his physicality and defensive presence around the basket. He recorded multiple strong blocks while generally staying composed defensively rather than chasing every opportunity. Offensively, he was comfortable operating from the dunker spot, where he finished forcefully and generated production without needing designed touches.
Honorable Mentions
Achilles Orji - PF - 6'7" - 2028 - Dream City Christian (AZ)
Orji made several winning plays late, knocking down a go-ahead three, creating a steal on the following possession and securing a crucial offensive rebound in the closing seconds. His impact extended beyond scoring and showed up when Dream City needed possessions most.
Akol Nyok - C - 7'1" - 2027 - Columbus (FL)
Nyok used his length effectively as a defensive presence and showed some intriguing feel offensively, including a quality pass to the corner after drawing help on the roll.
Martin Sibal - PF/C - 7'2" - 2028 - Columbus (FL)
Sibal moved impressively for a 7'2" big and displayed a soft touch around the rim. One sequence summed up his effort particularly well: after committing a turnover, he immediately sprinted back and created a steal on the other end.
Isaiah Clarke - PF - 6'7" - 2028 - CIA Bella Vista (AZ)
Clarke's activity helped change the game during his team's second-half comeback. The Canadian FIBA U16 forward impacted possessions on both ends and showed a nice touch around the basket.
Zain Majeed - SF - 6'7" - 2027 - Mater Dei (CA)
Majeed flashed scoring versatility with the ability to operate from multiple levels, while his off-ball movement and occasional work with his back to the basket gave Mater Dei different ways to utilize him offensively.
Richie Ramirez - PG - 6'3" - 2027 - Mater Dei (CA)
Ramirez provided steady point-guard play for Mater Dei and showed some craft when navigating traffic inside the paint.
Kur Lual - SF - 6'7" - 2027 - AZ Compass Prep (AZ)
Lual provided versatile production off the bench, contributing as a shooter, transition finisher and offensive rebounder. His ability to impact possessions in several different ways gave AZ Compass useful lineup flexibility.
Zion Green - PF - 6'9" - 2027 - AZ Compass Prep (AZ)
Green played a straightforward, efficient game as a stretch forward who could knock down an outside shot while still using his size to capitalize on opportunities inside.
Jimmie Haywood III - CG - 6'3" - 2027 - AZ Compass Prep (AZ)
Haywood supplied energy while flashing three-level scoring ability and some craft when operating inside the paint.
Jakyi Miles - CG - 6'4" - 2028 - AZ Compass Prep (AZ)
Miles created paint touches with decisive drives but maintained good composure once he got to his spots. He showed the ability to play aggressively without becoming rushed.
Kaiden Wilson - SF - 6'5" - 2027 - Iowa United Prep (IA)
Wilson displayed useful versatility with the ability to stretch the floor, operate around the dunker spot and contribute defensively. The Redondo Union transfer also showed some deceptive athleticism and good awareness away from the ball.
Braylen Williams - SF - 6'5" - 2028 - Bishop Gorman (NV)
Williams moved well without the ball and provided floor spacing from the forward spot, showing a knack for knocking down shots when Bishop Gorman needed them.
Trey McKinney III - SF - 6'6" - 2028 - Millennium (AZ)
McKinney provided rim protection with several quality blocks and ran the floor hard in transition, filling lanes and converting opportunities around the basket.
David Baliraine - C - 6'8" - 2027 - Dynamic Prep (TX)
Baliraine brought consistent energy in the paint, fighting for loose balls and creating second-chance opportunities with his rebounding instincts and activity.
Munir Greig - SF - 6'5" - 2027 - Coronado (NV)
Greig was effective attacking the rim in transition and showed good awareness when drives were cut off, finding teammates rather than forcing finishes. His willingness to step in and take multiple charges also stood out.
Donovan Palmer - C - 6'8" - 2028 - Sunnyslope (AZ)
Palmer stepped into a larger role following Wabbington's early departure and responded with productive minutes, finishing around the rim while using his activity to disrupt plays defensively.
Juleeyan Williams - CG - 6'4" - 2029 - Centennial (CA)
Williams showed the ability to create scoring opportunities at all three levels, playing with poise and patience with the ball in his hands. He maintained an aggressive, attack-minded approach while staying under control and consistently looking for ways to pressure the defense.
